A protest amble
PA Auckland More than 200 people ambled up Queen Street, Auckland, yesterday in quiet support of the . Springbok tour of New Zealand next year. The marchers drew little attention to themselves and one motorist even stopped to ask why they were walking up Queen Street.
However, the organiser of the march, Miss Margaret Burke, said it was not intended to be a protest but rather a quiet stroll of support. “People are tired of protesters,” she said. “We held the march on a Sunday in order to prevent the disruption of shopping on Friday night.. People are tired of that, too.”
