General forecast: Rain is expected in most western districts of the South Island. North-wester-lies, strong at times, are likely in areas from Cook Strait southward. It will be mild in the east of the South Island. District forecasts: Canterbury: Rain about the Alps, high cloud elsek where; north-westerlies strong inland, spreading to the coast; warm.

Marlborough: Mainly fine, cloud increasing about the Sounds;; north-westerlies freshening, becoming strong in exposed places; warm. -

Nelson: Some showers in the western ranges, otherwise fine; moderate -northerlies; mild.

Buller, Westland: Cloudy, scattered rain; northerlies freshening; cool.

Outlook: Showers on the West Coast, mainly fine ’ elsewhere. •
