Mystery attack on bowling club

Westport reporter

Constable S. G. Gee is investigating a mystery attack on the Millerton Bowling Club. , . , Somebody has in the last week set off explosive charges at the pavilion end of the green, damaging timber retaining walls. Because of electrical storms in the area over the last week, residents did not notice the blasts. The charge used at one end was much bigger than the other, sufficient to blow out the timber section of concrete and scatter debris across the green. Fortunately for the club there was no damage to the green’s surface. Constable Gee is puzzled by: the incident. Had it been simply a- case of vandalism, the greens would likely have been attacked, while anybody playing with explosives could have chosen, a much better place, he said.
