Expected total catch
As an indication of the magnitude of the potential of the fishing industry, the diagram below shows the estimated’ total value, at f.o.b. level, of the ex-
pected total catch from New Zealand’s zone for 1980 as between the domestic industry, joint venture charter vessels and foreign licensed vessels.
The present New Zealand net domestic content of this “pie” is approximately SI2OM. If the same resources were being
caught by New Zealand vessels, and processed in shore facilities, it would have a New Zealand domestic content of approximately S2SOM per annum. There are major national benefits .to be gained’ from our fisheries resources if development is approached in the right way.
