Airline pilots criticised
The Airline Pilots' Association is criticised in the September issue of “Planesman,” the journal of the Canterbury Aero Club. The journal accuses the association of “stirring the pot” by informing the news media of alleged near midair collisions between Fokker Friendships, and light aircraft. It says that the association is contemplating industrial action to get greater control of airspace. But because Friendships fly- at speeds not much faster than many light aircraft, it says.
the Friendship “slots nicely into the pattern of rules of the air and altitude requirements.” 1 The journal questions that data exists to prove that ,New Zealand skies are hazardous. as alleged by the pilots’ association. It criticises the association for “pushing an emotional barrow with a strong undercurrent of industrial unrest.” It says that most noncommercial pilots do not :have a union to brandish their cause and that presI sure tactics are not their I way of life.
