National Library "Sixyear hole in the ground

The Library Association is “bitterly disappointed” about the delay in starting work on the new National Library in Wellington, according to. its president, Mr J. E. Traue. V Mr Traue said that $1.4 "million was allocated in the Budget Estimates for construction in 1980-81. “At this rate nothing will be spent this year, and in 1981 librarians will

mark the fifteenth anniversary of the creation of the National Library with only a six-year hole in the ground,” he said. Librarians were united in their belief that New Zealand’s information needs would not be properly met until the National Library’s collections and staff were housed in a proper building, Mr Traue said.
