Strike forces TV changes
The programme directors of Television New Zealand have chosen “The Hottest Show On Earth” to replace “Eye-witness on TV2 tonight. “Eye-wit-ness” cannot be shown’because of a rolling strike by production staff. “The Hottest Show” is a Canadian documentary which uses Monty Pythontype humorous effects to look at the serious issue of energy conservation. Rodney Bryant and the news staff of “The Mainland Touch” will again be affected by the strike and will be replaced on TVI at 7.30 p.m. by “Superstar Profile,” with Woody Allen, the actor, the subject. “Radio with Pictures,” scheduled for screening at 10 pan. on TVI, will be replaced by “Ringo,” a report on the former Beatie, Ringo Starr. Three programmes were cancelled last evening because of the strike. They were the 6.30 p.m. news on TVI, which was replaced with “Gravity is My Enemy,” the story of a paralysed artist; “The Mainland Touch,” which was replaced by another “Superstar Profile;” and the 10 p.m. news, which was replaced by a documentary on the salvaging of a luxury liner from the Pacific.
