The veteran St Martins team of Walter and Ngaire Logan had a 13-6 win over Denis and Ann O’Callaghan (St Peters) in the final of the Canterbury husband and wife indoor bowls tournament at the week-end. O’Callaghan went out to an early lead in the final, but he killed the seventh end to put Logan ahead, 7-6. Logan steadily increased this lead and his opponent finally conceded on the eleventh end. In the semi-finals Logan made a remarkable recovery to win on an extra end from Grace Kerr. After’six ends Kerr had established a seemingly impregnable 11-1 advantage. Logan managed a four on the seventh and one on the eighth, but still entered the last 11-6 down. He then trailed the jack to the back bowls to

hold five and tie-up the game. And on the extra end Kerr moved the jack while trying to protect a shot. In the other ' semi-final O’Callaghan held a slight edge throughout and eventually beat Noel O’Connor, 8-2, over nine ends. Fifty-three teams qualified for post-section play from 150 entries.
