A message from the Electrical Development Association’s executive director Mr A. G. Boshier. Over recent years there has been considerable pressure on everyone to conserve energy. With the precarious state of the world’s oil supplies and its increasing cost, conservation has been sensible and necessary. Unfortunately, all this pressure and publicity has left the impression that there is a shortage of electricity. Everyone now knows that this is not the case. There is plenty and it rightfully belongs to the electricity consumers of New Zealand.

Electricity has an exciting future and its application knows no bounds. Technological development is continually taking place with new devices and techniques being available to the electrical industry and new appliances being provided for the industrialist and housewife. This is what the electrical exhibition is all about. It has been designed to give everyone the opportunity to see the latest developments and to observe the trends.

1 A large number of the exhibits feature products produced for the electrical supply industry. While the cheif executive officers and elected members of all the distributing authorities in New Zealand are gathered in Christchurch for their annual conference, they will be given this excellent opportunity to meet manufacturers’ representatives and view their latest products and methods. * •

Business and • industry executives will find much at this exhibition to assist the efficient operation of their undertakings and increase their production. There is plenty to interest the public with a fine selection of electrical appliances on display. The promotion of these appliances does not encourage the greater use of electricity. Many appliances today

are specially designed to perform specific functions efficiently and economically. Automatic operation is the main criteria.

Several exhibits are giving practical demonstrations of convenience appliances by experts and these will be of special interest to housewives. Electricity is the obvious choice as the fuel for the future. In a world that is feeling the pangs of an energy shortage electricity is our sure hope and is more valuable than ever. “Choose Electric 80" will make this very clear.
