Walker Park?
The Labour member of Parliament for Papanui (Mr [M. K. Moore) has suggested that a reserve in Isleworth Road be named after his National predecessor. In 1977, local residents) began a fight to have the land, which was owned by; the Crown, turned into a park. A petition was taken! to Parliament and a decision was made in principle for the Government to surrender the . land to Waimairi, County.
f _Mr Moore said that the. r I lo'cal people had discussed ijwith him the possibility of i naming the land after the 5 former National member, Mr ,H. J. Walker, once the land ;|was formally declared public ; property. r i The reserve could be i named Walker Park in “lastijing tribute- and honour" of the fine work done' for the ■ people of-Papanui by Mr and Mrs Walker. Both had been early champions for !the public use of the land.
