Sir, — One significant fact overlooked by Messrs Bateman and Garvey (September 13) is that historically in by-elections the Government in office retains its member with an expected somewhat reduced Government majority. This National Government in two by-elec-tions during its term, has lost not' just two seats but
two blue ribbon seats through its own lack of delivery of its promised economic miracles. In five by-elections National lost two seats while Labour retained three. — Yours, etc,,
