PA "'J Hamilton If New Zealand and Australia are seen to be too ipuch in collusion over agriculture exports, the European Economic Community might remove New Zealand’s preferential trade treatment, according to Mr D. Eckersley, president of the Australia National Farmers’ Federation. Mr Eckersley was on a New Zealand visit that included the Ruakura Agricultural Research station at Hamilton. : • '

“But obviously there is room for Australia and Netv Zealand to co-operate over trading on other markets,”.he said, “Thus, we could complement each

other’s effort rather than compete undesirably. Mr Eckersley thought prospects for economic cooperation between Australia and New Zealand’s own' markets were . also good, so long as both countries were sensitive to anv antagonism an agreement might prvoke. Mr Eckersley was invited to New Zealand by the Government to discuss extending by 10 years the New Zealand-Australia Free Trade Agreement, which expires next year.

He met the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Talboys) to prepare for a more formal , visit by • an Australian agriculture delegation in December.
