Orienteering promotion
More than 250 people competed in an orienteering event in Hagley Park. The event was a special promotion day designed to attract new orienteers. ’ Many of the competitors had never tried orienteering before, but most had no difficulty finding their way around Hagley Park with a map. Hagley Park is excellent training ground for g orienteenng, but.'the terrain is not 1 challenging enough for top-level competitors. There were two 'i courses pn f Sunday: a 2 km walking'course and a 6 kpmcoursei covering most; of the, park. : K
- The next event will be.a run around the streets" of Lyttelton on Sunday, September 14, starting at 10.30 a.m. at the Lyttelton Main School. As usual there will be a range of courses for beginners, intermediates and experts. Results.— Long course: D. Laurie 29min 07sec, 1; M. Parker 29min 16sec, 2; W. Fraser 30min 30sec, 3; R.
