Christchurch Women’s Hospital
Sir, — I read with great interest your article on bed allocation change at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. (September 10). Without any fuss let us have open bookings at Christchurch Women’s instead of the present disgraceful system where general practitioners are allocated three beds a month. The alternatives ,for women who miss are not appealing. I am glad to note that homecare services are, to be implemented for - women who choose, to- leavewithin ,48 hours. Let us see that this is' indeed implemented, and soon. We should also be considering paternity leaves for all fathers as many families are far apart and cannot always rely -on a willing grandparent/ There ' is far. less disruption if the father is able to care for the family while the mother is in hospital. The Women of Christchurch deserve better. I urge all interested women •-to press , the board and thp Minister of Health until we have open bookings and. home-care ; services. ;,. — • Yours, etc., e. McConville. September 10, 1980.
