Greyhounds Airwoman flies to victory
By
BOB SCHUMACHER
There is a touch of class associated with Airwoman. The No Pardons-Bishopdale Lass brindle has only had a handful of starts, but she has won her races with ease, and continued in that vein at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s sweepstake meeting; at Queen Elizabeth II Park bn Saturday. Airwoman met her strongest opposition in a class 2 race over 560 m, but she wasted no time; in. putting a break on her seven' rivals. Speedy Cash, which led the chase down the back straight. was 1 beaten before the bottom! bend, and it was left to Silent Illusion and Devoted Lady to lead the chase. . : Both are very capable grey-i hounds but thev were unable toi make any impression on the! pacemaker, which won with ease* in 34.025, the fastest time of the: day for the distance. I Silent Illusion, a surprise winner of the Tanqueray Laurels last April, has wintered well and should have benefited from the I run. Devoted Lady added another, placing to an increasing list, and should riot have to wait much longer for a winning run. In the main hurdle race. Grey Wadderin and Duelling Gay gave a brilliant exhibition of fast leaping. Duelling Gay was: never more than three lengths; behind Grey Wadderin, but the leader never erred and his econ-1
lomical jumping kept him ahead to the finish. | Reject’s Charm was; seen in ’favourable light when he made . no race of the . class 3 event. ! He was away well from near the outside, and soon shook off the attentions of Irish Panther. The big Kim’s Mint-Torianpa Charm fawn dog maintained a powerful gallop to the line, although there was a lot to admire in the second placing of Kilty Hobbs, which was among the tailenders down the back i straight and made considerable ground over the last 220 m for | his placing. ’ The class 2 and 3 distance race over 805 m was an all-the-! wav win for Signor Caruso. He! made a good beginning and was! never headed, although Flying Crls was rapidly overhauling him in the home straight. I Solarcaine’s superior speed from the traps enabled him to; beat the New Zealand Breeders’! Stakes champion. Placid Power,! over 33dm. Placid Power dwelt! at the start, "but the sprint! should have sharpened him con-[ slderably for the next totalisatorj season. ■ The fastest" sprint winner was Jondug Lad, which careered away in the ; first class 2 race over 330 m. He began brilliantly and was out ‘by six lengths before the home straight. His time was 19.595, an : unofficial track record. .<• ■ Other impressive winners were
Pacific at Night; Juanita’s Charm. Killarney Angel. Silent Mirage, Kim Khan, she’s a Friendly, and Iris’s Lass. Results were:—
