The new format for the Canterbury rugby league grand final day is certain to Ibe retained as a result of the highly successful financial outcome last Sunday. ■Mr Steve Gunby, the league's secretary-manager and the man responsible for devising the plan to involve all 10 top clubs in the province, said yesterday that the gate receipts were $9300. That was quite easily a record for any rugby league match at the Show Grounds below international level. The attendance was about 4500, also a record for club rugby league in Canterbury.
