August was warm and wet
Spring arrived early in Christchurch this year, according to figures given by the Weather Office. August 23 was the hottest August day for 10 years. The maximum temperature recorded on that day was. 22.2 deg.; the highest August figure since 1970. r ‘The total number of sunshine hours for the month was 35 more than normal, which, boosted the average daily temperature by almost one degree. -August was .not.-all warm and a; frost -.of. .10.3 deg. was .at Christchurch Airport on August 10, and the reading in the Botanic -? r ,' MW?
