PA Wellington The Cook Strait electricity cable will be fully restored later this month but Electricity Division staff are still puzzling over why it failed. In "an attempt to solve the mystery, the North Island terminal of the cable was opened on Wednesday. The Cook Strait cable con-
sists of three cables and in July the No. 3 cable failed. It .was originally feared that the fault was beneath the strait, but it was eventually found on a beach joint at Fighting Bay, the South Island terminal. A technical officer with the division, Mr I. Crabtree, said that the joint had been badly burnt out.
