Reserve in ‘solitary’
It was just as well that the Canterbury rugby team did not have to call on its utility back, Robbie Deans, as a replacement in the first half of the Bay of Plenty match at Lancaster, Park yesterday. Deans spent all that time. locked in the Canterbury dressing room under No. 1 stand. His anguished cries were heard-. by a rugby and
cricket colleague, David Farrant, as he arrived at the ground at half-time. “Dave, Dave, get me out of here,” was the plea which sent Farrant in search of. an official to release the prisoner. Keys were produced, explanations 'offered, and Deans, free once more, was able to cheer Canterbury on to its third win of the national competition.
