Australian market rally
A stronger gold sector, and a surge of interest in stocks related to Strata Oil’s Woodada gas find in Western Australia, featured in stronger trading on‘Australian sharemarkets yesterday. Strata finned 30c to 260 c for a gain of 57c in two days, and its affiliates, Haoma, and Northwest Mining, added 30c and 25c respectively to 320 c and 270 c — with the market apparently expecting some good news. . .
Western Resources, which has spudded in near the Woodada area, firmed 20c to 175 c and Geometals, with a lease, next to Strata, firmed 8c to 84c. ■ '
Elsewhere, news of an agreement which might end the Queensland coal strike' saw Utah rise 32c to 550 c; .... ... .......
C.R.A.’s 50 per cent interim profit lift to SIOOM was translated into a 10c gain by the shares to 630 c. Golds were generally improved in the wake of stronger prices overseas but Poseidon outraced the pack with a 55c rise to a year’s high of 530 c; Central Norseman and G.M.K. each added 20x to $12.00 and 870 c. In other trading, Western Mining, due to report this week, firmed 8c to 592 c, Peko added 22c to 946 c, PanContinental was up 30c at 700 c, M.I.M. held at 510 c, E.Z. fell 10c to 630 c, B.H.P. was 30c higher at $15.40, and CSR advanced 14c to 744 c.
Industrials were generally little changed, but the selloff in A.G.L. was reversed when buyers pushed the shares 15c higher to 350c<
