The first trout hatchery site in Christchurch is more visible these days in the Botanic Gardens woodlands, on the edge of the daffodil gardens. An artesian Ayell has been capped by gardens staff, with a. dunking fountain built over it. Water from the fountain now flows into a side stream of the Avon River near Christchurch Hospital. Mr Kheng Leung Ng and Miss Yow Thim Lam, University of Canterbury students, take advantage of the hew fountain. An old plaque, laid in 1967 to mark the Acclimatisation Society’s hatchery site in 1867, is beside the fountain. Press, 3 September 1980, Page 2
