At- times the Canterbury defence looked shaky, especially when having to turn and chase, but fortunately for it, the Nelson forwards were unable to capitalise on the weakness: Nelson did have some success in the second half. It forced two penalty-strokes, one of which went wide, the other being converted by Tony , Penketh, and three minutes? from full-time Graeme Strickett scored from a penalty-corner. The Canterbury towards, once .they gained confidence with their footing, played some outstanding hockey. By the interval the side was ahead, 5-0, and Balvant Bhana had pushed a penaltystroke into the goal-keeper’s pads. George Camoutsos scored first after dribbling the ball from the top of the circle past several players and into the goal-mouth. He scored
another superb individual goat in the second half. Ross Ambler; scored twice in- the’ first half from corners, ' Selwyn Maister converted Va penalty-stroke, and Mark Burtt scored a cheeky goal. He took a rebound off the goal-keeper’s pads, ran around him, and pushed the ball- into the het. - t . Two minutes into the second half: Carnoutsos set Barry Maister up for a goal and late in the-game Maister got a second when his brother Chris dribbled 'into the circle and along the back-line before making a neat-reverse stick pass, to his. brothei* in front of the goal. : , „ „ •Canterbury B was only- 2-0 up against..- Rotorua at the interval, but in the ■ second half it ran .the Rotorua team ragged to score six more goals. lan Hill, lan Riach and' Ross Thompson again had fine: games, dribbling with speed and - control in the forwards.
