Money to help mental health
Grants totalling more than $86,000 have been announced by the Mental Health Foundation in its' second allocation of fundsthis year. •Community mental programmes, child abuse prevention, the Auckland Grey! Lynn Neighbourhood Law Office, and a big research investigation into mental ili-health in women are among toe projects supported. The largest grant, $28,417, is for toe women’s mental health project, which will be headed by a psychologist, .Ms S. J. Calvert, at the community and continuing „care department of the •Taurabga Hospital Board. ..■ The project, a two-year study, will examine aspects -of toe mental health of ', women in two com- . munities, Tauranga and ?JMatomata, aa uxhan ani a laxiral riistoiet -A'- .':.L..-.i. ■. Other; grants include:
Commuixity Support Group, Nelson, $5390 over two years for rent and coordinator’s salary for neighbourhood centre; Blenheim Community. Creche, $5OOO over two years to support salaries and rent for family and day care centre; Friends of Ward 12, Invercargill, $3OOO for salaries and rent for ex-psychiatric patientsboarding house; Christchurch Parents’ Centre, $2340 for salary .and travelling expenses of co-or-dinator of classes; Nelson Women’s Refuge Centre, $lOOO grant; Marlborough Women’s Refuge, $lOOO grant; Family Life Education Council, Christchurch, $!Q00 for film and books; and Bumside High School, Christchurch, 31000 for, printing of leader's handbook. , No grants have been made subject to .conditions ; and guarantees being met.
