Auckland victory
Drake Personnel, of Auckland, won the second of three $lOOO winner-take-all men’s basketball tournaments, which was played in Wellington at the week-end. Drake scored an upset, 84= 83, win over the Christchurch team, Checkers, which won the first tournament in its home city a fortnight earlier. Checkers beat the Wellington entry, Citizen Central. 80-72, in its second match, but the winner’s cheque was Drake’s after it, too, beat Central, 90-68. In its final game, Checkers beat the local invitation St Pat’s team, 94-84. The last of the three tour-
naments will be played in Auckland at the end of this month. 7
