$3000 bail on house attack claims
Three men, each facing charges of intimidation and of being members of an unlawful assembly, were each remanded on bail of $3OOO when they appeared before Judge Bradford in the District Court yesterday. They are: Kenneth James Amst,' aged 23, unemployed, Trevor John Mann, aged 23, a beneficiary, and Glen Alexander Veitch, aged 17, unemployed. The three defendants were each charged with being members of an unlawful assembly intent on carrying out an attack on a house in Auburne Avenue, and that with intent to intimidate the occupants they damged the house. The alleged offences were said to have occurred on August 26. Arnst (Mr S. G. Barber) pleaded not guilty to both charges. He was remanded to October 10 for a defended hearing. Mann (Mr G. D. Horne) and Veitch (Mr I. A. McCaw) were both remanded without plea to September 5.
While on bail Arnst and Veitch were ordered to report daily to the police. Because of medical reasons Mann is not required to report. In each case Sergeant J. J. Chadderton did not oppose bail but sought sureties and dailv reporting. ARMS CHARGE Kevin Alistair Miller, aged 22. a process worker, was remanded without plea to September 5 on a charge of unauthorised possession of a sawn-off shotgun. The alleged offence is said to have taken place on August 27. ; Bail was set at $l5OO together with a surety of the same amount. FRAUD CHARGE Robin Ewen James Kempthorne, aged 41, a glass sorter, denied a charge of fraud. I He is alleged to have obtained a ring and a watch, valued at $664, from a Lower Hutt jewellery firm on October 4 last year. Kempthorne was allowed bail.
