Human Rights Commission

Sir, — If the rights of the individual must sometimes be destroyed for “the public good” as the Human Rights Commission has claimed, who is to decide the public good? A religious zealot might claim _ compulsory membership of his religion as the public good, a company might '.insist,on compulsory purchase of its product, a union might insist bri compulsory membership, a doctor might insist on compulsory drugs in the water supply, a Government might insist on compulsory subscription to its superannuation or accident compensation or welfare schemes. Some “authorities” are so certain that they can run our lives better than .we can that they constantly press for legislation to ram their own. little ideas down our throats. Is this “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”? Let us get rid of this crazy and expensive Human Rights Commission, which is violating human rights more than projecting them. —Yours, etc., A. J. FORD. August 26, 1980.
