Deaf aid group near wind-up

PA Ashburton Work is still proceeding on preparing a balance sheet for the final win-ding-up of Better Hearing, Inc., the Ashburtonfounded national organisation to aid the deaf. The organisation got into financial trouble last year when it ran a national appeal which left it with debts of about $30,000. The organisation’s committee decided that steps should be taken to wind it up. The founder of Better Hearing, Mr S. Protheroe, says he is awaiting reports on stock and sales of hearing equipment from the organisation’s welfare assistants. The information is needed to complete the balance sheet. V.L. Mr Protheroe says'he is opposed to his committee’s decision to wind up Better Hearing. He says the appeal was a “tragedy.” “If we had not had the annual appeal we would still-be-going. I made a mistake;' and admit it openly,” said Mb Protheroe. ' .
