Punishment of parents rejected
PA Wellington A suggestion in Parliament by Mrs Mary Batchelor (Lab., Avon) that parents whose children commit acts of vandalism be made to work alongside their children on community work has been rejected by the Minister of Health (Mr Gair). Mr Gair said he did not think the simultaneous punishment of parents and children would help in the discipline of the children. The paying of compensation by parents for vandalism was contained in legislation.
