Royal issue

Two rare sets of stamps, possibly the only ones of their type in New Zealand, have been collected by a Christchurch woman, over a period of three years. Unlike other stamps, however, these are replicas, not meant for despatching mail. In most cases, if they were ever used for this purpose, they would -weigh far heavier than most letters, because one set, “The Coronation Issue” is made out of sterling silver, plated with gold (four of the seven stamps in this series are pictured above), while the other, “Stamps of Royalty,” comprises 25 replicas, cut from sterling silver. - The stamps are actual size. It was originally intended to offer them for display at the Zeapac ’BO philatelic exhibition in Auckland this week, but one of the silver stamps was-lost in transit and there was some delay while a replacement was authorised by the London manufacturers, which only produced a very limited world-wide edition.
