Mairehau High School took another big step to secure its ninth national secondary schoolgirls’ basketball title with an impressive, 61-35, win over the strong Church College side, of Hamilton, in last night’s semi-final match at the Wellington .Newtown Stadium. ‘’r.’, -
Mairehau’s superb’ defence kept Church. to only 16 points at half-time and great teamwork saw Mairehau play some ;of its best basketball; this' season. ;A;
Earlier in the day Mairehau beat Tamatea High in a quarterfinal game; 67-52, while. Church College accounted for Birkdale College, 56-37. Otumoetai College beat New Plymouth Girls’ High, 43-39, and Wellington East beat Queen’s High School, 59-10, in the other quarter-final games.
