Mairehau basketball bid
The Mairehau High School girls’ basketball team met a strong obstacle in its bid to secure a record ninth consecutive national secondary school girls’ championship title when it beat New Plymouth Girls’ High, 65-41, and Diocesan School, 67-48, in Wellington yesterday. Church College, of Hamilton, proved much stronger than expected beating Mana College, of Wellington, 54-39. and Queen’s High School, 67-42, and is now expected to meet Mairehau in
today’s all-important semi-final. This is provided both teams manage to win their respective quarter-final games this morning in which Mairehau meets Tamatea High School and Church College plays Birkdal* College. Burnside High School, attending its first national championshin, lost both its opening games and now contests division two. Burnside lost to Otumoetai College, 32-54, and Tamatea High School, 28-53.
