Telephone directory on way
Distribution of this year’s Canterbury telephone directory would begin' this week, said the acting Christchurch chief postmaster (Mr A. McKenzie) yesterday. .Mr McKenzie said the new directory would be about the same, size as in other years, but-the new format in compiling the book had made it. a “colossal task”’ ? ; . “We would like to think we have done a good job ensuring its accuracy.” In recent years some complaints have been made about the accuracy of listings. In the 1980 edition each subscriber in the book’s area, from Clarence to Hinds, is listed alphabetically, as are Government departments, previously to be found in a separate section in the front. The directory does not officially come into use until October 10, coinciding with the switch over of the Lincoln exchange to six figure numbers within the Christchurch free - calling district. Distribution of directories will have been competed by then.
