General forecast: A front lying across the Tasman Sea and the far south of New Zealand is expected to move slowly eastwards, bringing rain to the west of the North Island and some heavy falls to • the West Coast of the South Island. Little rain is likely in eastern districts, although cooler southerly winds, with scattered showers, should spread onto the south of the South Island late today.
