West to blame, say poor
NZPA-Reuter New York Developing countries yesterday blamed industrialised nations for causing a crisis in most of their economies.
A statement issued by 120 .Third World nations said most of their economies were at a crisis level while in the least developed countries economies already had i collapsed or were about to I collapse. I The statement was made on the eve of a two-week special session of the United Nations General Assembly starting on Monday to draw up an agenda for global negotiations next year to create a new international economic order.
It was issued by the developing world's umbrella organisation, the Group of 77, after a Ministerial review of their economic difficulties. The statement said there was no adequate political will among richer nations to solve economic problems even on issues requiring urgent action. In some cases developed nations had even tended to back away from earlier agreements. “The Ministers deplored the fact that adequate, effective and timely measures had not been taken by the developed world and that their response had been inadequate and halting,” the statement said.
