Top seed’s easy path to squash final
PA Hamilton The top seed. Dean Lovett, yesterday cruised with relative ease into today’s boys final of the New Zealand junior open squash championship at Hamilton. In yesterday's quarter-finals and semi-finals, his power and range of shots beat oft the challenges of the No. 8 seed, Scott Harrison (Ponsonby) and Hugh Leabourn (Panmure) respectively in straight-game victories. The other finalist, the No. 2 seed. Wayne Rowlands (Gisborne), had an even easier path than Lovett through the tournament until he met the No. 3 seed. John Mills (Collegians, Wellington), in the semi-finals. . .This was a closely contested match, marred’bv frequent calls for let and resultant bickering, but Rowlands won 9-7. 8-10, 9-2, 10-9 after a tense finish.
