N.Z. mare fifth
NZPA Westbury, New York The New Zealand’s mare, Petite Evander, with Ed Dunningan driving, finished fifth in the $lOO,OOO Challenge Cup Trot at Roosevelt Raceway here on" Saturday evening. The United States took the first three places with Classical Way, Crowns Star and Cold Comfort which fnished first, second and third in the 2400 m race. .France’s Hillion Brillourd, driven by Phillip Allaire, was fourth ahead of Petite
Evander, while France’s favoured Ideal Du Gazeau, guided by Eugene Lefevre, was sixth. Itlay’s Doringo, driven by Giancarlo Baldi, wound up eighth and last after breaks ing just past the start, behind seventh placed Motor Mouth, another United States entry. Classical Way, winner of last week’s $250,000 International, was timed at 3min 07.1 s on Saturday, well outside the world record set in this event three years ago by Kash Minbar.
