Changes to Gore races
PA Invercargill Because of recent track drainage work carried out by the Gore Racing Club, the Eastern Southland Hunt Club has slightly altered the programme for its annual race meeting at Gore next Saturday ■The committee of the Eastern Southland Hunt Club met at the course on Thursday and some slight changes have been approved by the Southland District Racing Committee and the New Zealand Racing Conference. A false running rail will Be erected adjacent to the existing running rail about four metres out onto the track from just past the winning post oh the turn out of the straight to the 1200 m start, and a further rail will be erected for about 200 m by the 800 m mark. The stipendiary stewards have approved of several alterations and have recommended safety limits which have been approved by the committee: 1200 m events ■'(14); 1800 m events (12); and ,2000 m steeples and . hurdles .events (14). i - The steeplechase fences at the 300 m and 700 m marks /may have to be resited. f. The only programme condition change applies to the class five Waikaka Handicap, originally programmed for 1400 m. It will now be contested over the shorter joirney of 1200 m. When the course proper was inspected on Thursday, the track was found to be easy and, with reasonable weather between now and next Saturday, it could provide firm footing. ' ■
