Glimpse of war
NZPA Moscow ■-- Millions of Societ television viewers have had their first glimpse of Russian soldiers on active duty in Afghanistan. ; An hour-long documentary screened during prime time showed Soviet soldiers lined up beside members of the Afghan people’s Militia before setting out on a joint security patrol. y The commentary assured viewers that “this disquieting ceremony” was a thing of the past. “The Situation is normalised and tire Afghan militia alone keeps die peace in (he streets.”
/The film contained the first shots seen on Soviet television of soldiers in tirmoured personnel carriers setting out on active peace-keeping duties, and stated that they were needed “to defend the country from outside intervention.” The documentary, titled {“Afghan Report 1980,” followed normal practice in ’saying that Soviet Soldiers not engage in combat sagainst the anti-Marxist battling the pro-So-Jviet Kabul Government.
