WomenV Suffrage Day, September 18, will be marked by the Christ-’ church National Organisation for Women by a seminar. The Young Women’s Christian Association is having a forum to promote understanding in this local body election year, “The Role of Women in Local Bodies” will be discussed at the Y.W.C.A., 268 Madras Street, at 7.30 p.m.. on August 20. Women in the know udll do the talking, and answer questions. They Will talk about the organisation with which they are most involved.

The panel is: Mrs Caroline Cartwright (Christchurch Hospital Board); Mrs Patricia Prebble (Heathcote County Council); Ms Vicki Buck (Christchurch City Council: Mrs Helen Garrett (Christchurch Transport Board); Mrs Margaret Murray (Waimairi County Council); Mrs Margaret Ferner (Christchurch Hospital Board). If you are wondering why you didn’t get a diploma in bringing up children before it all started happening in your household, it’s not too late. Christchurch Parent’s Centre has help at hand. Even though they don’t guarantee to make you always cool, calm, and collected — a failure-proof parent — plenty of people who have taken their courses can testify to their usefulness.

These include ante-natal courses, and courses for adopting parents (six couples attended the latest course — “extremely successful”) and for parents of children aged one to five years, and five to 12 years.
