General forecast: The cold front over the south Tasman Sea is moving east, bringing rain to areas of the South Island about and west of the main divide; a few falls are expected further east in Otago and Southland; fine mild weather is expected east of the main ranges from Bay of Plenty to Canterbury. It will be cloudy in western and northern parts of the North Island; strong, north-westerlies are expected to persist over most of the South Island
. District Forecasts: Canterbury: North-westerlies strong and gusty in exposed places, especially inland, mainly fine apart from high cloud, but rain developing in the Alps tomorrow; mild by day.
Marlborough: Strong, gusty n o r t h-westerlies predominating, cloudy at times, otherwise fine; mild in the afternoon. Nelson: Westerlies . predominating, fresh in exposed places, cloudy with occasional showers about the western ranges, but mainly fine elsewhere. Buller: Northerlies freshening; cloudy and cool with occasional drizzle at first, but more persistent rain developing tomorrow. Westland: Rain in the south spreading to the. whole district overnight; cold with strong northerlies. Outlook: Some rain in western districts and in Southland; mainly fine east of the main ranges.
