Arrangements for staffing the proposed western refuse transfer station were condemned as being “sloppy” by a Paparua County councillor iast eveniiig.
Cr A. Y. Shuker criticised the Christchurch Metropolitan Refuse Committee for its approach ? to Paparua. to discuss the possible running of the.station by the council. .-.-A sub-committee of the council .was invited to discuss the .proposal with a subcommittee of the Metropolitan. Refuse Committee. But Cr E. C. Britnell said the refuse sub-committee had not yet met to discuss the running of the station' and- he was surprised that the council had been, approached sq soon.. (Cr 'Britnell is the'council’s representative on the Refuse Committee;) '. ? ■ . . Cr Shuker said that common sense would have. dictated that the metropolitan committee . first approachthe unions, which would eventu-
ally have a say in the staffing of the station, rather than the local body. The metropolitan committee’s actions < were another example of; its sloppiness and its failure to do its job properly. The refuse sub-committea has been empowered-to look at three options: that the station be run by the Metropolitan Refuse Committee, by one of the contributing local bodies, or by contract.
