Experiments using animals
Sir, — S. Robertson (August 1) coined the correct phrase for animal mutilators, . sadists, calling themselves scientists.’We should discern between humane scientific researchers, who use animals to a minimum without causing pain, and the charlatans and profit merchants who look upon all animals, including primates and man, as expendable objects with no rights. Belsen was .the end result. If the rights of animals had been ' established earlier, human rights, might have meant something later. At present in America there is a person looking. for volunteers,so that he can . put two human heads on one body. This has already been achieved with, dogs in Russia and monkeys in America, those' admirable bastions of rights' and - liberties. The final answer to this madness is the sense of outrage of the ordinary decent citizen regardless of religious or non-religious affiliation. — Yours, etc., J. SHARP. ■ August 3, 1980.
