The Ashburton clocktower will feature on the cover of the new Christchurch district telephone directory due out in late September. More than 230,000 copies of the new book would be distributed to subscribers, said the acting chief post-master, iMr A. McKenzie, (pictured holding the new directory).

Dates for the distribution and the book had not been decided, he said. The directory is the first computer-printed book for Christchurch and will have four columns to a page, instead of three. Government departments, formerly listed in a separate section in the front of the book, will be included in the general alphabetical listings.
