Mr McCulloch originally decided to seek the National Party nomination because he "as concerned about the prospect of people outside the electorate winning the nomination. But he was not nrepared to. sign a party pledge that in the event of his being unsuccessful in gaining the party nomination, he would not stand against the select-, ed candidate. i An adult education lecturer at Auckland Univer-' sity, Mrs Wyn Hoadley, was! on Monday evening selected; as the Labour Party candi-i date to contest East Coast! It was “unlikely” he would stand, he said. However, he .was “concerned that Parliament, because it should he representative, has very few business persons in it — those who are in trade.” Mr Walls is a marketing manager for a Dunedin firm of merchants, Wilson Neill, Ltd. Of the nine party members who have confirmed they will seek the nomination, three come from outiside the electorate.
