East-West brawl at judo hall

NZPA-AFP Soviet officials have complained to the International Judo Federation, after a British competitor’s brawl with a Soviet guard. The. competitor, Mark Chittenden, was . stopped from entering the mat area for a bout on Sunday by a guard, said a British team official, Mr Martin Lewis. “Mark started to force his way through,” Mr Lewis said. “He had his correct competitors’ tag on, but the guard elbowed him in the chest so he pushed him out of his way against a wall” Soviet and federation officials held a meeting with Lewis today. “The result was satisfactory,” Mr Lewis said. “I explained that inside this hall it was the. Olympic Games, and the control of competitors was excessive. It has been weaker today.”
