Mercury director
PA Auckland Auckland’s Mercury Theatre has appointed a Wellington-born actor and director, Jonathan Hardy, as its new artistic director. Now based in Melbourne, Mr Hardy, aged 39, is in Auckland as part of the cast in the next Mercury production, “The Comedians,” and as guest director for the
next play, “One a Catholic.” Mr Hardy was chosen from 40 applicants from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, and Britain. He is the first New Zealander appointed artistic director of the Mercury Theatre since its foundation in 1968. The previous directdrs, Tony Richardson and lan Mullins, were British.
