Pritchard will miss play-offs
Eastern Suburbs will be without its Welsh profession, al, Gordon Pritchard, when it contests the Canterbury N.Z.I.G. club rugby league championship play-offs later thia season. Pritchard is to return to Britain, where he plays for Huddersfield, on August 11, the day after the completion of the premiership. Fine positional play led to Pritchard gaining three tries for Eastern against Linwood on Sunday, his contribution virtually assuring Eastern of at least sharing the minor title.
Although Eastern trails Marist-Western Suburbs by two points on the premiership table, it has a match in hand and should beat both Hornby and Halswell to reach 24 points. Marist will need to have a win at Addington’s expense to equal that total. No doubt Pritchard’s experience will be sorely missed by his adopted club, but Eastern has a strong reservoir of accomplished backs and is better equipped than most teams to cover for such a loss.
