Moscow Olympics
Sir, — Lance Cross, chairman of the New Zealand Olympic Committee as well as National Government appointee as chairman of the Council for Recreation and Sport recently did his utmost to bring about a boycott of the Moscow Olympic Games. He said that the Games had become “a serious international situation” with the Soviet invasion. of Afghanistan and that the matter had gone beyond the mere question of politics and sport. (“The Press,” May 26). After helping the Government to wreck our Olympic team, Mr Cross has gone on to attend the 1980 Olympics himself as New Zealand representa-
tive on the International Olympic Committee and comments on “the wonderful living quarters for sportsmen and excellent food’’ (“The Press, July 26). I wonder if our athletes are pleased to hear how much Mr Cross is enjoying himself in Moscow? —Yours, etc., ANTHONY BROWN. July 26, 1980.
