Exclusion explained

In a reference to an article in yesterday’s edition of “The Press’’, Mr Vryenhoek clarified the reason for .the exclusion of the Canterbury racer, Mark Fulton, from the F.I.S. series.

“Fulton is fit, but he’s a full-time ski instructor at Mount Hutt and, as an amateur body, we couldn’t approve his entry,” Mr Vryenhoek said. Instructors -were, however, eligible, to race on the national circuit.

Last week Mr Vryenhoek had mentioned Fulton as a possible member of the regional teams then mooted: “But I had no idea then that he was a full-time instructor." Mr Vryenhoek added that two other excluded skiers, Michael Bushell and Tim Sheppard, had not attended any of the national race camps, including those run at week-ends when they had no work commitments.
