Bongo Boy shopes well at Wingatui
. Special correspondent Dunedin Bongo Boy, which requires two scratchings to enter the field for the Christchurch Hunt’s second Haldon Stakes, shaped attractively at Wingatui yesterday morning. Bongo Boy was showing clear of a Noble Bijou filly after running 800 m in 53.9 s on a heavy inside grass. A gelding by Valuta from Saint Ives, Bongo Boy is a member of Bryan Kennedy’s stable. Seafarer will be expected to measure up against class five opposition in the Gould Handicap at Riccarton ’on the score of his runawaymaiden win at Wingatui this month. Candyboy recorded 55.6 s for 800 m. Double Knit and Calamity returned the best effort on the sand when they ran 800 m in 53.25. Calamity? is a half sister by Bally Royal to the useful Hillbarik. She is trained by John Dowlihg.. Larkin gave a dashing display over six hurdles to lead Hasuka with Arcello dropping away early. Larkin has his initial start as a hurdler on Saturday.
